Former WBC middleweight boxing champion Jermall Charlo found himself on the wrong side of the law as he was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), eluding and fleeing from police, and leaving the scene of a crash involving over $200 in damage, according to officials from the Pearland Police Department, as reported by NBC News on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded Monday night at 12799 Broadway St. in Pearland, a Houston suburb, where officers responded to a collision involving Charlo. Upon arrival, law enforcement observed a verbal altercation between the involved parties, revealed police spokesperson Chad Rogers. Attempting to evade the situation, Charlo reportedly fled the scene in his Lamborghini, refusing to comply with police orders to stop. However, officers managed to corner and apprehend him.

Further complicating matters, Charlo’s blood alcohol content was measured at over 0.15%, significantly surpassing the legal limit of 0.08% in Texas.

The 33-year-old champion was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Brazoria County Jail. He was later released after posting a $9,500 surety bond.
